Jeff Harmening is responsible for all company operations including U.S. Retail, International, Convenience Stores and Foodservice segments, Sales and Channel Development, as well as Global Supply Chain, and Innovation, Technology and Quality functions.
He assumed his role as president and chief operating officer in July of 2016.
Before that, Harmening was chief operating officer of U.S. retail, where he had corporate oversight of the Baking, Cereal, Meals, Snacks and Yogurt divisions.
Harmening's earlier experience at General Mills includes a role as chief executive officer of Cereal Partners Worldwide (CPW) – the company's joint venture with Nestlé and headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland. He was responsible for a nearly $2 billion global cereal business that distributes to more than 130 countries outside of North America.
He began oversight of CPW in July 2012.
Harmening was named president of General Mills’ Big G cereal division in June 2007.
Before that, he served as vice president of marketing for CPW. In that role, Harmening led CPW’s marketing strategy and activity in markets worldwide.
In 2004, Harmening was promoted to vice president of the company while at CPW, and promoted to senior vice president in April 2011, when he served as president of Big G cereals.
Prior to his marketing role with CPW, Harmening led Big G New Enterprises, where he successfully launched Berry Burst Cheerios.
Harmening was promoted to marketing director in 2000, and held marketing director leadership roles in Big G New Enterprises and Foodservice New Business.
Harmening began his career at General Mills in 1994. Since that time, he has served in various marketing roles in the Betty Crocker, Yoplait USA and Big G divisions.
